The Venomtech team along with our collaborator Dr Carol Trim (second from right) from Canterbury Christ Church University are celebrating wear it pink day as we have a long standing battle against breast cancer in our research. Since 2000 Dr Trim has been studying breast cancer mechanisms and therapies. The formation of Venomtech in 2010 allowed her to access novel molecules within venoms as part of our first collaboration. Now her PhD student (and Venomtech staff member) Danielle has discovered further actions of venom peptides that could unlock novel methods of tackling this disease in humans. Our research doesn’t stop there, Alice (far right) is now starting an MSc in the same lab, following on from her final year project looking at similar venom peptides in canine breast cancer.
