Venom A-Z V is for Venom

Venom A-Z V is for Venom – the cocktail of proteins utilised by venomous invertebrates, snakes, fish and reptiles for prey capture and defense.  Venoms have a wide range of clinical effects and can cause pathologies within the nervous, circulatory and respiratory system. Venoms are highly specific towards their targets within the body, due to millions of years of evolution. Alongside natural selection of venoms towards prey capture and predator defence, the target molecules have evolved into disease relevant genes and proteins; thus, venoms have enormous therapeutic potential.
