Biodiversity Information
The diversity of venomous animals throughout nature is the very thing that gives Venomtech our success. Thus, we are committed to protecting the natural biodiversity across the planet wherever we are able to make a difference.
Sourcing animals from responsible breeders is not only the right thing for the species but, also brings value to us, as these animals are usually healthier and show fewer signs of stress. The scientific and zoological communities are still unsure exactly what stress is, in invertebrates and reptiles, and its true causes are still unclear.
Venomtech are assisting in co-chairing the Hazardous Invertebrate Sub Group (HazISG) of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums' (BIAZA) Terrestrial Invertebrate Working Group (TIWG). In addition, all of our staff are members of the Veterinary Invertebrate Society.
Our sourcing strategy means our living collection is compliant with the The Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing, and we are in continual contact with the UK government to maintain this as it continues to be rolled out and adopted.
