Venom A-Z T is for thrombin-like enzymes

Venom A-Z T is for thrombin-like enzymes – These are enzymes that have been identified in many different snake venoms, including that of the sidewinding Egyptian Sand Viper (Cerastes cerastes) (pictured below), and are known to cause varying haemotological effects dependent on dose.   Whilst during envenomation, these can cause widespread coagulopathies throughout the body, therapeutically they present a potential avenue for treatment of clotting disorders such as stroke, haemophilia and deep vein thrombosis.
