Venom A to Z – K is for Kappa

Venom A to Z – K is for Kappa Theraphotoxins. Using the nomeclature proposed by Glen King and Colleagues in 2008 and adotped by Arachnoserver, kappa Theraphotoxins are the cystein knot peptides that modify signaling in potassium (K+) channels. These toxins are found in many Theraphosid (Tarantula) Genera such as Grammostola,Thrixopelma,Theraphosa and Heterosocdra. Today’s photo is one of our ornamental baboons Heteroscodra maculata.
