Venoms A to Z. D - Disintegrins. These small polypeptide sequences interfere with integrin signalling in normal and disease tissues. Snake venom, particularly vipers (including rattlesnakes) and rich sources of disintegrins and disintegrin domains attached to SVMPS (Snake Venom MetaloProteinase). Therefore they have a wide therapeutic potential from blood clotting to cancer metastasises. The image is of one of our Gaboon vipers which have a high venom yeild which contains many disintegrins.
